Honoring the Growing Dominican Population in the Bronx


On Wednesday, February 12, Bronx Borough President Ruben Diaz Jr. hosted the borough’s official Dominican Heritage Celebration to celebrate the beauty of the Dominican culture.

Borough President Diaz honored leaders from the Dominican Republic who have contributed to the growth and cultural richness of The Bronx.

This year’s honorees included State Senator Hon. Adriano Espaillat, local business owner Manuel Lebron, and Supreme Court Justice Hon. Julia Rodriguez.

The Borough President also presented a proclamation to Honorable Luis Lithgow, Consul General of the Dominican Republic of New York. The event was held at the Grand Slam Foundation on East Tremont Avenue and featured traditional Dominican food and music.

Consul General Lithgow received a proclamation from the Borough President of The Bronx, in a ceremony which highlighted the growth of the Dominican community in the county and called on his countrymen to preserve and enhance their cultural values.

Lithgow said that he was proud to represent the government of President Danilo Medina, the Consulate and the Dominican community.
