“Don’t disappoint me, I want you as the next president, OK?”

Those were the fashion icon's words for Hillary Clinton, at a fundraiser last night for Carnegie Hall at the Plaza Hotel ballroom near Central Park.

De la Renta and Clinton have been good friends for a long time now. Clinton once recalled her first encounter with the designer like this:
“I first met Oscar de la Renta in December 1993,” she said. “I was hosting, along with my husband, the annual gathering for the Kennedy Center Honors. We were in the receiving line, and people were coming through, and they were making small talk. Along came Oscar and Annette, his fabulous wife. So I reached out to shake Oscar’s hand, and he looked me up and down and said, ‘That’s one of my dresses.’

Publicly, De la Renta has called Clinton his "best friend," and in 2013 said of the former first lady:
"I love Hillary. She’s extraordinary, a symbol of where women want to go. I assume we will have a woman president soon."

Other than Mrs. Clinton, De la Renta is also known for dressing another former first lady, Jacqueline Kennedy.

Maybe, we may soon know De la Renata as the designer who dressed the first woman president of the United States.
