Leopoldo Pérez, also known by his signature "Lepe," was born in Santo Domingo, in 1937. A member of "Los Tres," he studied at the National School of Fine Arts in Santo Domingo, where he obtained the "Gran Premio Trujillo" for painting, in 1959, and a second prize in sculpture.

After graduating, he travels to the United States where he lived for three years and exhibited in several group shows in different cities (New York, Michigan and Miami)

Lepe received a scholarship to further his education in Spain, where he studied Pottery and Drawing School at the Círculo de Bellas Artes in Madrid.
