About the Artist

Fernando Arturo Baez, known as Tuto Baez, born on 1895 in Monte Cristi, Dominican Republic.

He studied painting under Arturo Grullon in Santiago, and later with Abelardo Rodriguez Urdaneta in Santo Domingo. Under Urdaneta, Baez gravitated towards the art of photography, becoming one of the first cinematographers in the country.
