Leonardo Sanz (1971-2017)
Leonardo Sanz, Dominican artist, died in a car accident on July 20, 2017. Beloved among his peers, Sanz was known for his colorful, lively paintings.
Born in 1971, in the city of Santo Domingo, Leonardo Sanz began his life as an artist at a very young age, winning a local art prize when he was barely ten years old. His first instructions in art were from his grandmother, Rosa Del Carmen Pellerano Lamarche, and his father, Sr. Leonardo Sanz Delgado, an architect.
In 1986, he enrolls at the Gregg Institue in Santo Domingo where he studies Architectural drawing. Between 1991 and 1992, Sanz is enrolled at the Altos de Chavon School of Design to study fine arts. This is followed by a trip to Japan to study illustration.
