Fernando Ureña Rib (1951-2013)
Fernando Ureña Rib (1951-2013), was born in La Romana, the seventh-largest city in the Dominican Republic, and capital city of the southeastern province of La Romana.
In 1963, he began his artistic education at the National School of Fine Arts in San Francisco de Macoris, where he earned a scholarship from the state to the National School of Fine Arts of Santo Domingo. At ENAV, Fernando had the opportunity to study painting another the great Dominican artist, Jaime Colson.
His love for the arts also extends to the written word and language; earning a BA in Philosophy and Literature in 1968 from the Autonomous University of Santo Domingo, where he also studies English, French, German, Portuguese and Italian.
In 1973, he travels abroad, visiting cities in Central Europe and North Africa. With the endorsement of the distinguished Spanish writer, Don Gregorio Marañón, he exhibits at the Institute of Hispanic Culture in Madrid and at the institute counterparts in Barcelona and Soria and at the Museum of Fine Arts in Malaga.
Fernando Ureña Rib died on 27 December 2013, age 62, in Berlin, Germany. Hi work has been exhibited in museums and galleries in Madrid, Soria, Malaga, Ponce, Bonn, Mainz, Bad Kissingen, Amsterdam, Rotterdam, Rome, Paris, London, Frankfurt, Munich, Brussels, San Juan, Miami, Ottawa, Quebec City, Montreal, Bogota, Caracas, Santiago, New York, Detroit, Chicago, and Santo Domingo.
