Iris de Mondesert, artist from Santo Domingo

Iris de Mondesert

Iris de Mondesert, born 1954, in Santo Domingo, capital city of the Dominican Republic and one of the Caribbean's oldest cities.

In 1972, she enrolls at the Pedro Henríquez Ureña University, earning a Bachelor of Architecture and a Master's Degree in Conservation of Monuments and Cultural Assets, in 1977.

Her watercolor works are picturesque scenes of day-to-day life with a focus on the street and homes found throughout the Dominican Republic–especially the capital city and it's 'colonial zone.' Iris uses her background in architecture to perfectly capture the lines and shadows of the dilapidated country-side timber homes, and the colonial era styled houses of the big city.
