Julio Valdez (Santo Domingo, b. 1969)
Julio Valdez (1969), was born in Santo Domingo, capital city of the Dominican Republic, situated on the southeast coast of the island.
Valdez studied art at the National School of Fine Arts, Santo Domingo (1984 - 1986), and at the Altos de Chavόn School of Design, in La Romana (1986 - 19868). In 1994, he travels to New York City, where he studies Printmaking with Robert Blackburn (1920 - 2003), and Kathy Caraccio.
In 1989, Valdez presented his first solo exhibition "Aire Fresco," at the Institute of Hispanic Culture, in Santo Domingo. Since then, he's held solo shows and collectives throughout the Caribbean, United States, Central America, and Europe. His works are included in collections throughout the United States and the Dominican Republic. In New York City, you can find Valdez's work at the The Robert Blackburn Print Collection, the Kathy Caraccio Print Collection, the Metropolitan Transit Authority art collection, and the Museo del Barrio.
