Corporativo 2010 Building in Santo Domingo

Corporativo 2010 Building in Santo Domingo

"The Corporativo 2010 Building, home of JMMB Finance Group. It’s located in Santo Domingo. It has 15 stories used for office spaces and commercial businesses. I chose it because of its weird pattern."

National Pantheon in Santo Domingo

National Pantheon in Santo Domingo

"Bodies become ash, and this place is where famous and important people from Dominican History are buried. The National Pantheon (Originally a Jesuit Church, until all jesuits were kicked out of the country in 1767) stands as a monument considered national sumbol. It was constructed with a neoclassical-renaissance style. It was Dictator Trujillo that ordered, in 1956, for it to be restored and turned into a mausoleum, because he wanted to be buried there (little did he know)."

Hamaca Hotel in Boca Chica

Hamaca Hotel in Boca Chica

"Swing in spanish is: Balancearse, hamacarse. This is the Hamaca Hotel by architect Guillermo González. Built in 1951, in Boca Chica. It is one of González top creations, that ends his period of white rationalism. This hotel became an icon and attracted very important people to it."

Cathedral of St. James Apostle in Santiago

Cathedral of St. James Apostle in Santiago

"This is the Cathedral of St. James Apostle (Catedrál de Santiago Apóstol) located in Santiago de Los Caballeros. It is the mother church of the Archdiocese of Santiago. It was built in masonry, by Onofre de Lora between 1868 and 1894. It has an accentuated eclectic style, and because of its frail structure, it was submitted into an intense consolidation and restoration process."

Baquero building in Santo Domingo

Baquero building in Santo Domingo

"This building is a very Husky, strong one. It’s name is Baquero building and it’s amo g the firsts in using elevators, because of its height. It was designed by Puerto Rican Engineer Beningo Trueba in 1927. It has 7 stories and two facades, that meet in a corner with a tower. It is a beautiful concrete building, that needs to be recovered from the abandonment it’s in."

Building under construction in Santo Domingo

Building under construction in Santo Domingo

"This one is located in the Waterfront of Santo Domingo (El Malecón) close to famous hotels and restaurants. I don’t know the whole story of this project and why it was left unfinished, but last year Santo Domingo’s Mayor decided to turn this abandoned tower into a hotel. Let’s see how that goes."

Torre Caney in Santo Domingo

Torre Caney in Santo Domingo

Torre Caney is the second tallest building in the Dominican Republic. It consist on 42 stories, with 178 m of height. It was built by Rodriguez Sandoval firm, starting in 2005, and completed in 2008. Why I chose this building for this prompt? Because when it was built, it was mindless for a lot of people to have a residential tower as tall as this one, with apartments of 800 sq.m.
