Artist Statement

""If I leave here I die!," is about the environment in which I grew up and where I lived. The constructions; how it's built, the houses, the neighborhood, all that.

I try to portray the environment in which I grew up, in which I live. I talk a little about the neighborhoods of Gualey, Guachupita, Los Guandules, and 27 de Febrero, and try to show how they are, how they feel.

I was first motivated by that phrase that I have always heard, "if I leave here I die!," and I started asking myself "why?" "Why so many people with that phrase in their mouths?" Plus, I always saw the difficulties plus the virtues that I had living in the neighborhood and that was what motivated me."
